Frequently Asked Questions
SCALE OVERVIEW
1. What needs to be installed before the Freepour smart scale can be used?
You don’t need to install any additional software or complete any setup taks before using Freepour. Simply navigate to the Wi-Fi section on Freepour’s menu to connect to your local Wi-Fi network, and you’re good to go.
2. How long does it take to charge Freepour?
Freepour typically charges in about 5 hours. When plugged in, Freepour will remain on until fully charged and then will automatically shutdown.
3. How long does a charge last?
Once fully charged, Freepour can last up to 3 hours, depending on usage. Freepour’s screen displays a battery life indicator and will start to “beep” when power is low. Even if power is lost during inventory, Freepour will save your last scan. You can also continue using Freepour while it’s plugged in. When not in use, Freepour goes into Sleep Mode to preserve battery life. By default, it will turn off automatically after 1 hour of inactivity (this can be adjusted in the Settings).
4. How fast is Freepour?
Count up to 10 bottles in only 30 seconds. Most of our customers are able to finish their liquor inventory in a matter of minutes.
5. Will Freepour work in rooms with spotty Wi-Fi?
While taking inventory, Freepour doesn’t need Wi-Fi access. Whether you step into the walk-in, the freezer, or wherever else Wi-Fi won’t reach, you can be sure your counts will still be recorded on Freepour’s hard drive. You only need to connect to Wi-Fi when you’ve finished counting and are ready to push your inventory from Freepour to your account (this will automatically update your reports in our software). Simply bring Freepour to an area with a Wi-Fi signal, and it should sync your data in around 30 seconds.
TAKING INVENTORY
6. What is the process to actually take inventory?
Whether you take inventory nightly, weekly or monthly, the process is simple and always the same. Make sure Freepour is charged (and turned on), then:
- Scan your bottle’s barcode
- Pop it on the Freepour smart scale to get an accurate measurement
- Repeat this process until you’re done
- Sync the counts to MarginEdge
- Let MarginEdge work its magic to give you all the reporting you need to run a better bar!
7. Do I have to scan & weigh in a particular order?
When using Freepour, you do not need to follow the same order as your last count. Scan and weigh in whatever order you like.
8. Do I need additional apps or tools to take a count?
Nope! The only thing you need to count is the Freepour smart scale. No need to lug around additional tools or accessories.
9. How many barcodes are in your database?
We have 35,000 existing barcodes set up and ready to go in our database. If your bottle has one of those barcodes, you’re good to go.
10. What if Freepour can’t read my bottle?
If your bottle does match any items in our database of 35,000 barcodes, we’ll walk you through the steps to create a new item right there on Freepour’s touchscreen. (We’ve tried to make this process super easy for you.)
11. Can I scan and weigh batched cocktails?
At this time, you cannot weigh batched cocktails or any homemade items. (The ability to print and scan custom barcodes is coming soon.)
REPORTING
13. What reporting is available?
COGS With our COGS report, know how much of each ingredient is being used to help you both understand consumption patterns and adjust purchasing accordingly.
Theoretical usage With our theoretical usage reporting capabilities, know how much product you’ve used versus how much you’ve sold in order to help you identify potential discrepancies and pinpoint areas for improvement in your operations.
Theoretical on-hand Our theoretical on-hand report shows you the actual stock you should have on hand by combining inventory and sales data. Managers can quickly identify issues (like overstocking, understocking, or shrinkage) and make decisions in-the-moment around ordering, menu planning, and staffing.
