Did your new scale arrive in the mail? Let's get you set up!
When you scale arrives, here’s what this article will walk you through:
- Open it up! It should arrive already charged so no need to plug it in.
- Get connected to the internet.
- Complete your first Data Sync.
There is also some internet troubleshooting help at the end of this article.
Getting Started with Freepour
When you signup for a Freepour scale, we ask for your BWL inventory list. And if you have different bar areas, we also want a list of location names you want to use to track these locations. If your scale is missing these location names, please email help@marginedge.com to get them added.
[1] TURN IT ON (and find that stylus pen!)
- To turn on the scale, tap the white button on the back, then wait 90-120 seconds for the scale to boot up. The screen will be dark and there will be a red light on in the back while the scale is booting up.
- Use the included stylus pen’s tip for tapping buttons on the screen. There’s a holder for the pen attached to the side of the scale to store the stylus pen with the scale.
[2] CONNECT TO THE INTERNET: We need to make sure you can connect to the internet for your data sync. But don’t worry, scanning for inventory will work even if you aren’t connected the whole time!
- Turn the scale on - the white power button is also on the back - and you’ll see your “Main Menu”.
Grab that sylus and tap to click on “Settings” then “Communication Settings”.
- You want to tap to adjust the “Wi-Fi Settings”.
- Tap the SSID Drop down - choose your WiFi network (you may need to scroll if you’re in a busy neighborhood)
Warning: The scale’s WiFi connection will not work through a Guest Wi-Fi connection that requires a web browser sign-in to be completed.
- Enter the Passphrase in the box as shown.
- Tap OK to save
- You will see the message: "This change requires a reboot of the scale. Press OK to reboot." Hit OK one more time!
[3] DATA SYNC: Complete that data sync to ensure you are starting off with the latest and greatest data.
This will sync the Inventory items in your scale with the cloud, including:
- Master List
- Inventory List
- Category and Sub-Categories
- Stocking Locations
From the Main Menu, click on “Data Sync”. Then click on “Cloud Data Transfer”
Since a sync will clear the latest inventory data from the scale itself, we will always double check that you are sure you want to export. One more tap on “Yes” if you are ready!
Note that Inventory Counts will NOT be reset if the data sync fails.
You will get a progress report as the work progresses and confirmation once competed!
Sweet, now you are ready to take your first count!

Troubleshooting the Wi-Fi Connection
If you see these warning messages, here's what to do.
"Warning: No internet connection. Do you want to save these changes to your settings?"
This means that the WiFi has made a connection to the network but something is preventing data from transferring, i.e. no Internet connection.
- Did you try to use a Guest WiFi connection that requires a website login? That won’t work, so see if you can get access to the main network.
- If that’s not the issue, check to see if there are firewall rules in place that are not allowing the scale to connect properly.
"Warning: No network connection. Do you want to save these changes to your settings?"
This likely means there is an issue with the security authentication entered. Can you check your passphrase and try again? Without a network connection, you won't be able to access the internet.
What if I can't find my network name in the list?
Are you using a phone hot spot for internet? Be sure to enable the hotspot before accessing the WiFi settings, and remember you'll need the network name and the password. Once you can find the hotspot name in the list, enter the password as explained above and click through to confirm everything.
If for some reason the hotspot (or any other source) SSID network name is not showing up, you may want to try rebooting the scale. Be sure the network is on before turning the scale back on and you should see the name pop up in the list.
For Apple iPhone users: If you are using an Apple iPhone for your hotspot, the network name CANNOT have any spaces in it:
- NO: Mikes Hotspot
- YES: MikesHotspot
What if I just can't seem to connect?
Do you have a firewall enabled on your internet? You will need to work with your IT team. They would most likely need to whitelist the scale's MAC Address within their firewall.
The MAC Address can be found via: Main Menu > Settings > Communication Settings > Wifi Information
Do you have a Guest Wi-Fi connection that requires a web browser sign-in to be completed? Unfortunately the scale will not work with this type of internet set up. Please use a different network for the scale.
