If you're building an integration against the MarginEdge Public API, or connecting an AI assistant (like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini) through the MarginEdge MCP server, you may see a response like this:
HTTP 401
Your MarginEdge user does not have the required access to retrieve this data.
Please contact your manager to request it.This means your MarginEdge user account doesn't currently have the role needed to pull this data through the API or MCP, not that anything is broken with your connection or your AI tool.
Who Has Access
Access to the Public API and the MCP server is limited to certain user roles, specifically:
If you're using the MCP server (connecting an AI assistant like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini)
- Reach out to whoever manages your MarginEdge account to update your role. Once your role has been updated, reconnect (or sign back in) through the MCP connector so your AI assistant picks up your new access.
If you're using the Public API
- Reach out to whoever manages your MarginEdge account. They'll need to either update your role, or generate an API key themselves and use it for your integration, since only MarginEdge Admins can generate API keys. Admins can generate a key by following the authentication steps in the MarginEdge Developer Portal.
