How to connect a Free, Plus or Pro account to MarginEdge
1) Head to chatgpt.com or open the ChatGPT desktop app. Click on your user name and open "Settings"
2) Navigate to the "Security and Login" section. Scroll down to the "Developer mode" section and slide the toggle to turn on "Developer mode."
Reminder: The warnings are informing you to only add custom connectors that you trust. Our connector is secure and will only read your data from MarginEdge.
3) Navigate to your Plugins (Also accessible via this separate link: ChatGPT Plugins directory).
Click on the plus sign "+" in the right hand corner to create a new plugin.
4) The New Plugin box will pop up and you have a few steps to do here:
- Name: MarginEdge
- Description: Optional, provide one if you'd like.

Connection / Server URL: https://mcp.marginedge.com/mcp
*Be sure to copy and paste this exactly, as any typos or accidental punctuation can compromise the connection! - Authentication: OAuth (or the MarginEdge sign-in option, if ChatGPT asks)
- Click on the "Advanced OAuth settings" and under "Registration method", select "Dynamic Client Registration (DCR)"
5) Verify you have the correct Server URL and DCR security selection, and have checked the “I understand and want to continue” box. Click "Create". (You may also see "Scan Tools")
Reminder: We are actively working to have an official plugin with ChatGPT. In the meantime, our plugin is considered a “custom plugin”. Our plugin is secure and will only read your MarginEdge data.
6) If you're not already logged in, a MarginEdge sign-in window will open. Sign in as you normally would and approve the requested access.
Complete! Once the tool is finished scanning and installing, you'll have a completed MarginEdge plugin ready to use. Good work!

How to connect my Business, Enterprise or Education workspace to MarginEdge
This is a two-part process:
- Your administrator will first need to create and publish the plugin for the workspace
- You will select the plugin and connect your own MarginEdge account
Part 1: For the ChatGPT workspace administrator
Only workspace admins or owners can publish a custom app. It only needs to be done once for the entire workspace and does not require a [me] login.
1) From ChatGPT.com, open Workspace settings → Apps → Create. If prompted, enable Developer mode.
2) Create a custom app with this Connection / Server URL: https://mcp.marginedge.com/mcp
Use the name MarginEdge if a name is requested. Choose OAuth or the MarginEdge sign-in option if ChatGPT asks for an authentication method, then select Dynamic Client Registration (DCR) as the registration method. MarginEdge ONLY supports DCR.
3) Test the draft app in a new chat. You can do this by asking ChatGPT a question like “Which tools are present for this MCP?”
4) Open Workspace settings → Apps → Drafts, select MarginEdge, and choose Publish. For Enterprise and Education workspaces, use the available access and action controls to make MarginEdge available to the appropriate people and keep only its read-only actions enabled.
Publishing makes MarginEdge available to all users in your workspace. It does not give users access to anyone else's MarginEdge data.

Part 2: For each Team Member
Once your administrator has completed the process to create the MarginEdge plugin, then you can connect MarginEdge from the web or your desktop app. (Remember, you must be an [me] user with MarginEdge Admin permissions.)
From your web browser
1) Open ChatGPT.com in a web browser and start a new chat.
2) Open the + menu, choose Developer mode, and select MarginEdge.

From the desktop app
1) Go to Settings > Plugins, and select "MarginEdge".

2) Select "Continue to MarginEdge" to connect.
3) When asked, sign in with your own MarginEdge account and approve the connection.
Each person authorizes their own account. MarginEdge continues to use that person's existing MarginEdge permissions.
How to use your [me] data from within ChatGPT
After you have the plugin created, you can access MarginEdge from the web (chatgpt.com) or from ChatGPT for Desktop.
From your web browser
1) Start a new chat at chatgpt.com.
2) Open the + menu, choose Developer mode, then select MarginEdge for the conversation.
On the desktop app
1) Go to Settings > Plugins > MarginEdge. Click on the app to view the available tools.
2) Click "Try now".
3) In the prompt box, ask a specific question. For example:
"Using MarginEdge, what invoices came in over the past seven days?"
Mentioning MarginEdge explicitly in your first few requests helps ChatGPT use the correct app.
4) If ChatGPT shows a tool-call approval, expand and review it before allowing it. MarginEdge's tools are read-only, but you should only approve actions you recognize and expect. ChatGPT may only remember an approval choice for the current conversation; new chats may ask again.
If ChatGPT answers with your MarginEdge data, you have successfully completed the setup process!
