Before you Start
1) If you haven't read through the introductory article about the MCP server, please do that first in order to verify you have the correct user permissions (hint: MarginEdge Admin!) and understanding of the scope of the connection:
2) Verify you meet the minimum requirements for Google:
- You have a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription plan. As of 8/5/26, only Google’s AI Pro and AI Ultra subscriptions support custom apps in Gemini. Lower cost subscriptions, like Google AI Plus, are not supported, and users without a subscription can’t add custom apps either.
- You meet Google’s other minimum requirements. See the "What you need" section of Google’s help article on the subject for a complete list of these minimum requirements.

A step-by-step guide — no technical background needed to create a Gemini custom app
How to connect AI Pro or AI Ultraplans to MarginEdge
These are the steps to create a "custom app." That's simply Gemini’s term for an app you add yourself using a server address, rather than picking it from Gemini’s built-in directory. The setup takes a minute or two.
1) Go to https://gemini.google.com/apps and scroll down to the "Custom apps for Spark" section.
If you don’t see a Custom apps for Spark section, confirm you have a Google AI Pro or Google AI Ultra subscription plan and meet Google’s other minimum requirements. The latter is documented in the ‘What you need’ section of Google’s help article on the subject.
2) In the text box underneath the "Add a custom app link to get started" label, paste the following server address exactly as it is: https://mcp.marginedge.com/mcp
Click the "Next" button to the right of the text box.
3) In the "Set up a custom connected app" modal that appears, confirm the server address is https://mcp.marginedge.com/mcp, then click "Next".
Do not make any adjustments to the Advanced Settings — no OAuth Client ID, no OAuth client secret. Our server handles all of this through the sign-in step.
4). In the "Connect this MCP Server" box that appears, read Google’s disclaimer, scrolling down to click the "I understand and accept the security and privacy risks of connecting this custom app" checkbox.
Click "Connect".
5) Click "Continue" in the "Link an account" box that appears.
If this box does not appear and you are instead presented with an error message, make sure you meet all of the requirements detailed in the ‘What you need’ section of Google’s help article, then try again.
6) Read the disclaimer in the box that appears, scrolling down and then clicking "Agree and continue".
7) Our sign-in page opens. Sign in as you normally would.
8). You'll see a screen authorizing Google to access MarginEdge via the custom app. Click "Accept" to continue.
If you see a “Session token is expired” error message after clicking the Accept button, please try again.
9) You'll land back in Gemini, and after a few seconds, you should see "Save your custom app:". Here you can name your custom app. We recommend “MarginEdge”.
Then, click "Connect".
If all goes well, you’ll see a “Custom app connected” message appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen. You are connected, good work!
How to use your [me] data from within Gemini Spark
Now that you have added the MarginEdge custom app, it is available. You now need to make sure you’re using Spark, not Chat to access your [me] data.
1) Go to https://gemini.google.com/app and scroll over the switch icon in the top-left corner of the screen. If it says Switch to Spark, click it. Otherwise, if it says Switch to Chat, leave it alone; you want to be in Spark mode. Read and accept any disclaimers from Google that appear if you haven’t switched to Spark mode before.
2) Click the "Connected Apps" icon in the left navigation menu and then scroll down to the "Custom apps for Spark" section of the page to verify MarginEdge appears and that the switch for it is turned on.
3). Click the "Task"s icon in the left navigation menu and ask something specific as a test. For example:
"Using MarginEdge, what invoices came in over the past seven days?"
Naming MarginEdge explicitly in your first few messages helps Gemini reach for the right tool.
If Gemini answers with your real MarginEdge data, you're finished!

For questions about Gemini itself — the app, your AI subscription plan, custom app settings in general — Google’s documentation is the right place to look.
Gemini’s settings screens change fairly often, so a button may be labeled slightly differently or sit in a slightly different place than described here. The sequence — Connected Apps, add a custom app, paste the URL, sign in — stays the same. If your screen doesn't match this guide, let us know and we'll update it.
