Before you Start
If you haven't read through the introductory article about the MCP server, please do that first in order to verify you have the correct user permissions (hint: MarginEdge Admin!) and understanding of the scope of the connection:

Finding Settings in Claude Desktop
- On Windows: press Ctrl + , (Control and the comma key). Or click the menu icon in the top-left corner, hover over File, and choose Settings.
- On Mac: press ⌘ + , (Command and the comma key). Or use Claude → Settings in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Once the Settings window is open, look for Connectors in the sidebar on the left. Depending on your version of the app, it may sit on its own or under a Customize heading. Click it.
You'll now see a list of connectors available to you, with Connect buttons beside the ones you haven't turned on yet.
How to connect Free, Pro, or Max plans to MarginEdge
1) Open Settings → Connectors (see the section above for tips on finding "Settings").
2) Find the + or Add button, usually at the top-right or bottom of the Connectors list. Click it, then choose Add custom connector.
Depending on your version of the app, this may instead read Add, then offer a Custom submenu with a Web option. Either route leads to the same place. If you're offered a choice between a web connector and a desktop or local connector, choose web — our server runs on the internet, not on your computer.
3) A small dialog box appears. Fill it in:
- Name: MarginEdge
-
URL (or Remote MCP server URL): https://mcp.marginedge.com/mcp
*Be sure to copy and paste this exactly, as any typos or accidental punctuation can compromise the connection!
4) Do NOT enter anything in the Advanced settings! There's nothing for you to enter there — no OAuth Client ID, no Secret, no API key. Our server handles all of this through the sign-in step.
5) Click "Add"
6) MarginEdge now appears in your connector list with a Custom label beside it. Click "Connect".
Step 7. The [me] sign-in page will open and prompt you to sign in as you normally would.
8) You'll see a screen listing what Claude is asking permission to do. Everything listed will be a form of reading or looking up information — there are no write permissions to grant, because our connector doesn't offer any. Click "Accept" to continue.
9) You'll land back in Claude, and MarginEdge should now show as Connected. Good work!

How to connect Team or Enterprise plans to MarginEdge
This is a two-part process:
- A Claude account Owner creates the custom connector
- Every person who wants to use the connector, including the Owner, connects it with their own personal account
Part 1: For the Claude account Owner
Only Owners and Primary Owners can do this part. If that isn't you, forward this section to whoever administers your Claude account, then continue from Part 2 once they confirm it's done.
1) Sign in to Claude and go to Organization settings → Connectors. The direct link is https://claude.ai/admin-settings/connectors. This part is easiest in a web browser.
2) Click the Add button.
3) Hover over Custom, then select Web.
4) Enter a name (MarginEdge) and the server URL:
https://mcp.marginedge.com/mcp
5) Leave Advanced settings empty. Our server requires no Client ID, Secret, or API key.
6) Click Add.
Adding the connector does not give anyone access to your MarginEdge data by itself. It only makes the connector available to your team. Each person still signs in with their own MarginEdge credentials, which is how permissions stay correct for each individual.
7) Let your team know it's ready.
Part 2: For each Team Member
Once your account owner has completed the process to create the MarginEdge Connector, then you can connect MarginEdge from the desktop app. (Remember, you must be an [me] user with MarginEdge Admin permissions.)
1) Open Claude Desktop → Settings → Connectors.
2) Find MarginEdge in the list, carrying a Custom label. If it isn't there, fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop, then look again. If it's still missing, your Claude account owner hasn't completed Part 1, in which case please contact them and have them follow those steps first, then you can try again.
3) Click Connect.
4) Sign in with your MarginEdge account when prompted.
5) Review the permissions screen — all of them will be read permissions — and approve.
6) You should now be Connected!
How to use your [me] data from within Claude
Adding a connector once makes it available across all devices - it is tied to the account, not the device. After you add it, it will appear in Claude Desktop, on claude.ai in your web browser, in Claude Code, and in the Claude mobile apps, because the connection lives with your Claude account rather than with your computer. Note that you may need to switch it on for the conversation you're in.
1) Start a new conversation in Claude Desktop.
2) Click the + button near the bottom-left of the message box, then choose Connectors (in some versions this menu is called Search and tools).
3) Make sure MarginEdge is toggled on.
4) In your chat, ask something specific as a test. For example:
"Using MarginEdge, what invoices came in over the past seven days?"
Naming MarginEdge explicitly in your first few messages helps Claude reach for the right tool.
5) The first time Claude tries to use one of our tools, it will pause and ask your permission. Approve it to continue.
PRO TIP: You'll usually see an Always Allow option. Because every one of our tools only reads data and none can alter your account, choosing Always Allow is a reasonable convenience here — it saves you approving each lookup individually. If you'd rather review every request, the one-time approval works just as well.
If Claude answers with your real MarginEdge data, you know you're finished!
Getting Help
For anything about account linking, roles, what the connector can retrieve, or a connection that won't establish, contact MarginEdge Support at help@marginedge.com.
For questions about Claude Desktop itself — the app, your plan, connector settings in general — Anthropic's documentation is the right place:

- How connectors work: https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11176164-use-connectors-to-extend-claude-s-capabilities

Claude's settings screens change fairly often, so a button may be labeled slightly differently or sit in a slightly different place than described here. The sequence — Settings, Connectors, add a custom web connector, paste the URL, sign in — stays the same. If your screen doesn't match this guide, let us know and we'll update it.
