Issue a New MarginEdge Card
You can issue a card to any MarginEdge user who has access to at least one of your restaurant locations.
To issue a card:
- Open the MarginEdge Card Dashboard (you must be a MarginEdge Admin) and select the "Cards" tab.
- Click Add Card in the top-right corner
- Select the employee you want to issue the card to
- Choose the card’s Home Location
- Transactions will automatically be assigned to this location
- Set a Daily Spend Limit
- The cardholder cannot spend more than this amount in a single day.
- Provide the shipping address for the card
- Submit the request
Card Transit
Your card will ship via UPS Priority and should arrive within 2-3 days. To track your card's progress, check the dashboard. (Note that the tracking number can take up to 24 hours to populate.)
What if my card doesn't arrive? If your new card doesn't arrive within a week, then please log in to the dashboard and cancel the card and then issue a new one. Click damaged/stolen and select "lost or stolen" and issue a new card and can control where it goes.
Activate a MarginEdge Card
Cards will show as "Pending Activation" until they are officially activated. During this window, a card can still be used for online purchases or in mobile wallets. Your tracking number will appear within 24 hours after issuing.
To activate a card:
- Scan the QR code included in the card packaging or visit app.marginedge.com/cards
- Enter the last four digits of the card number and an associated phone number
Full instructions for employees are here: How to Activate Your MarginEdge Card
Once activated, the card is ready to use immediately!
Manage Cards as an Admin
Admins can manage all cards anytime from the Cards tab in the MarginEdge Card Dashboard.
Select the appropriate card and click the three dots on the far right side to open a menu:
Edit the Daily Spend Limit
Need to increase or decrease spending access?
- Update the limit from the dashboard
- Changes take effect immediately
Damaged - Reissue a Card
If a card is damaged or no longer works, but is still in your possession:
- Reissue the same card to the cardholder
- The replacement card will be shipped automatically
Stolen - Close a Card Permanently
Use this for lost cards or employees who no longer need access or when you suspect there are any unauthorized charges. This is also the best option if your new card never arrived - simply close it and reissue.
You can also call 1-800-518-1749 and use the automated prompts to help prevent any potential fraud.
⚠️ Closing a card is permanent and cannot be undone.
Lock - Temporarily prevent a Card's use
Use this when a card is temporarily unavailable or you want to pause purchases without closing the card.
- Locked cards cannot be used
- Cards can be unlocked anytime
IMPORTANT - If the card has been lost or you see unauthorized charges, you should immediately lock the card via the dashboard or simply call 1-800-518-1749 to pause and prevent any potential fraud.
Closed - Deactivated
A "Closed" card can no longer be used. If you see an unexpected "Closed" status, please reach out to help@marginedge.com and we can investigate for you.
What Cardholders Can Manage Themselves
Cardholders can:
- Reissue their own card if it’s damaged
- Pause or Close their own card if it’s lost
Cardholders can only view and manage their own transactions.
Only Admins and Accountants have full access to the MarginEdge Card Dashboard, including all cards.
Disputes and mistaken charges
If an employee accidentally incurs a personal charge on the card, that cardholder should reimburse the business directly outside of MarginEdge.
However, if the card has been lost or you see unauthorized charges, you should immediately lock the card via the dashboard or simply call 1-800-518-1749 to pause and prevent any potential fraud.
