Preparing Your Historical Sales Data for Upload
Many of our POS integrations are able to pull your historical sales data automatically for viewing year-over-year comparisons. But if you're not in that boat but would still like to see your historical data, we can help get that uploaded manually for you! This article provides instructions for the data format we need from you to make that happen.
Spreadsheet Formatting Requirements
To ensure a successful upload, your spreadsheet must adhere strictly to the following structure:
- Column Headers: Your spreadsheet must include exactly two columns, labeled exactly as follows:
- Column A: Date
- Column B: Amount
- Row Structure: Each row below the header must contain only a single date and its corresponding sales amount.
- Date Format: Use the MM-DD-YYYY format (e.g.,
01-25-2026). - Numeric Format: Use a standard decimal format with two decimal places: 0000.00 (e.g.,
1250.50) and leave off the dollar sign. - Do not include Zero-Dollar Days: If you have days with $0 in sales, simply skip those dates entirely. Every day/row in your spreadsheet should show net positive sales.
The file format can be a .CSV, .XLS, or a shared Google Sheet.
Example Setup Reference
In this example we skipped January 3rd because it had zero sales. You can match this format exactly for your file:
| Date | Amount |
|---|---|
| 01-01-2026 | 1500.00 |
| 01-02-2026 | 2350.75 |
| 01-04-2026 | 1800.20 |
Important Note: Uploaded historical sales data is used strictly for comparison purposes. Once uploaded, this data cannot be exported, nor can it be broken down into specific sales categories for display in your Profit & Loss (P&L) statements.
Please format your data in a spreadsheet using these guidelines and email it to salesintegrations@marginedge.com for upload. Let us know if you have any questions before submitting your file!
