If you’re considering connecting a new POS system—or are already connected to multiple POS systems—and are seeing duplicated or conflicting labor hours in your MarginEdge reports, this feature is for you. By default, MarginEdge automatically pulls labor data from every connected POS system, including employees who may clock in across multiple systems for operational reasons.
Consider this scenario: you’ve been using Toast to track both sales and labor, but now want to use 7shifts exclusively for labor management. However, some employees still clock in on Toast to place orders. Since MarginEdge pulls labor data from both systems by default, your Labor Summary report will show duplicate/double hours for any employee who clocks in on both platforms.
For the given scenario, with the Toggle Labor feature (or Labor Data Integration), you can disable labor data syncing from Toast while still allowing employees to clock in there. This prevents duplicate labor hours in your reports, without affecting the correct historical data.
When you toggle labor data OFF from a connected POS:
- All historical labor data from that POS, up to a selected date, will remain visible in your reports.
- Any redundant labor data from that POS, starting from that selected date, will be hidden from the reports.
- New labor data from that POS will no longer sync with MarginEdge.
- Labor data from your other POS/labor software will continue syncing with MarginEdge without interruption.
How to use the Toggle Labor feature in MarginEdge:
-
Go to Labor > Setup and scroll down to the "Labor Data Integration" section.
-
Click "Manage Settings" to open the modal.
You’ll see a pop up showing all POS systems available for pulling labor data (in this example: 7shifts and Toast). By default, both will be toggled on.
To continue with our initial example scenario using Toast & 7shifts, here's how we will make this change.
Let’s say your last valid labor data from Toast was on March 31, and you started using only 7shifts on April 1. To fix this,
-
-
Toggle Toast OFF
-
Use the "Apply changes from" date picker to select April 1
-
Click "Save"
-
Once saved:
- Toast labor data from April 1 onward will be hidden from the Labor Summary, Shifts, Controllable P&L, and Budget reports.
- Toast labor data before April 1 will remain in your reports and will not be removed or altered.
- 7shifts' labor data will keep appearing on reports as before
- You will now see on the main "Labor Data Integration" section that the list no longer includes Toast in the POS systems we are pulling from the labor data.
FAQ
What reports are affected when I toggle a POS off?
When you toggle a POS off starting from a specific date, all labor data linked to that POS will be hidden from that date forward in the following reports:
- Budget
- Controllable P&L
- Labor > Labor Summary
- Labor > Shifts
- Labor > Employees > View Employee > Shift Data
If you later toggle the POS back on, the associated labor data will reappear in these reports for the relevant date range moving forward.
Why can't I select a future date or a date more than 12 months in the past?
To avoid confusion, future dates are not allowed, and the date picker is limited to a 12-month lookback. If you need an earlier date, reach out to our support team—we’d be happy to help.
What happens when I connect a new POS system?
MarginEdge will automatically begin pulling labor data from any newly connected POS. The toggle will be ON by default, and you’ll need to manually turn it off if needed.
What if I change the date but leave the toggle ON?
Changing the date alone does nothing unless you’ve turned labor syncing off at some point.
For example, if you toggle off Toast from Jan 10 and then toggle it back on from Jan 20, labor data from Jan 10–19 will be hidden, while data outside that range will remain visible.
